An app for stealing user credentials

DroidSniff is another application developed for wrongdoing that is being sold as a tool that serves the user the purpose of checking the security level of their wireless networks. Nothing is further from reality: with this app, it is very much possible to steal credentials and passwords from users connected to a Wi-Fi network.

The app allows sniffing. That is to say, you can capture the information that circulates through a wireless network. In this case, the app has been developed to steal user data from social networks such as Instagram or Facebook. It works by spoofing, redirecting these users to a dummy URL where they enter their login details, thus capturing their information. It is one of the most common methods around for stealing data.

Requirements and additional information:

• Even though the application is labelled as malicious by several antivirus programs, there is no danger from installation. This comes from usage of the app itself.

• Minimum operating system requirements: Android 4.1.
• The installation of the app by means of the APK file requires the activation of the "Unknown sources" option within Settings>Applications.
