Practical and functional file compressor for free

StuffIt is probably the most popular file compressor for Mac, but it is a paid application that has limited functions unless you purchase it. Nevertheless, we can find many other interesting projects to compress and decompress files like The Unarchiver or Keka, that are free.

Keka is a totally free and open source compression tool, that is capable of extracting compressed files or reducing their size by compressing them in any of the formats that it is compatible with.

The best thing about this application is how easy it is to use: all you have to do is drag and drop the files and folder that you want to compress to the Keka icon on the dock. These files will appear compressed in the same place where the original files are stored. To decompress we will follow exactly the same process as to compress them. You can configure the format and the default method from the program's Preferences menu.

Main features

  • Intuitive use.
  • Support for the following compression formats: 7z, Zip, Tar, Gzip and Bzip2.
  • Decompression compatibility with AR, 7z, Lzma, Zip, Tar, Gzip, Bzip2, ISO, EXE, CAB, PAX and ACE (PPC).

If you want a function, simple and quick file compressionapplication, choose Keka.
